A further recall of Belfast Trust neurology patients is now planned, the third, after a further 181 people were advised that they received an “insecure diagnosis” from Dr Watt. This comes on the heels of the patient recall , which began three years ago and resulted in 600 patients receiving similar news. And it seems we are not finished yet, with a further recall to look at the care of another 209 neurology patients who were seen and discharged b Dr Watt between 1996 and 2012. In all approximately 205 of all patients seen by Dr Watt have been given an incorrect diagnosis according to figures provided by the Trust thus far. Quite why it has taken three years, and counting, for the Trust to address the care provided to the cohort of Dr Watt’s patients will no doubt be an issue which will trouble patients and their families and should detain the forthcoming public inquiry.
