A bereavement award under the Fatal Accidents (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 is compensation paid out to families where a loved one dies following an act of negligence, such as medical mistreatment, a road traffic accident, or an incident at work. In Northern Ireland, this sum has increased this week from £15,100 to £17,200.
Bereaved spouses, civil partners, and parents of under-18s are eligible to pursue a claim for damages under the legislation.
