Patient recovers £50,000 pursuant to Belfast Trust Neurology Recall

Dionne Darragh of O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors acted on behalf of a Client who was misdiagnosed by the Belfast Trust after in or around 2000.  Our client had suffered an accident at work and during investigations was referred to Neurology.  He was informed at that time that he had Multiple Sclerosis. Without any follow up or investigation, our client was treated for this condition. Seventeen years later it was discovered that our Client had been incorrectly diagnosed and there was a failure to properly investigate other possible diagnosis.

O’Reilly Stewart instructed independent assessments by Consultant Neurologists, a forensic Pharmacologist and Consultant Psychiatrist  to understand the impact of the misdiagnosis on our Client’s physical and mental health.  Following investigations, it transpired that as well as suffering side effects of the incorrectly prescribed medication, our Client was not properly treated for their existing condition.

Our client suffered significant distress and psychological suffering as a result of the negligence of the Hospital in failing to carry out proper investigations and administer the correct treatment.

Whilst our client had a degree of relief when it was uncovered that they did not have Multiple Sclerosis, it did not take away from the years of loss and distress they had suffered as a result of the negligence of the Hospital.

High Court Proceedings were issued on behalf of our Client and following lengthy negotiations a £50,0000 settlement was reached plus costs.

Client Testimonial: “Dionne has been of immense support. A massive thank you and appreciation for a superb service…felt like a valued client at all times.”
