£50,000 Settlement for Passenger in Road Traffic Collision

Dionne Darragh, Director, O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors acted on behalf of a client who sustained serious physical and psychological injuries as a result of a road traffic accident in 2020. Our client was the front seat passenger in a correctly proceeding vehicle when another driver caused them to collide when attempting to cut across their path.

As a result of the accident, our client suffered a fractured thumb causing pain and discomfort as well as restricting their range of movement. Additionally, our client had generalised bruising along with significant soft tissue injuries to their knee requiring a lengthy healing time post-accident of 12 months. These injuries caused an exacerbation of a pre-existing condition of alopecia. This understandably having a huge effect on our client’s daily life.

The traumatic effects of the accident caused our client to be left with ongoing travel anxiety and thereupon she struggled to drive, finding it increasingly stressful and leaving her hypervigilant.

O’Reilly Stewart engaged multiple medical experts to give independent medical evidence including a Consultant Psychiatrist, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Consultant Radiologist, and a Consultant in Emergency Medicine.

High Court Proceedings were issued on behalf of our client in the High Court of Northern Ireland. However, following lengthy negotiations, a £50,000.00 settlement for general damages agreed.

When asked for feedback, our client commented that the “Settlement was amazing.”
