BBC News NI has this morning reported that the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust is recalling more than 160 patients with advanced heart conditions who were fitted with a Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy device between 2007-2023. The news article states that the issues relate to the decision to implant these devices whilst under the care of Dr Lau.
This is a concerning announcement, particularly in light of the most recent Neurology recall, which will no doubt add to patients’ concerns regarding the standard of care provided by the Health Service in Northern Ireland.
We recognise the stress and upset to patients and their families whilst they await further updates. We understand the Belfast Trust is writing to those affected initially to invite them for further review.
Our Firm already represents a cohort of patients stemming from this investigation.
If you have received correspondence from the Belfast Trust regarding this ‘unnecessary’ procedure or have concerns regarding medical treatment whilst under the care of Dr Lau and wish to seek legal advice, please reach out to our Firm to discuss in confidence.
