O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors recently recovered a significant six figure sum in damages for a vulnerable pedestrian who was involved in a serious road traffic accident. Managing Director Stuart Gilmore acted in this case.
Our client was knocked down at a pedestrian crossing after the Defendant driver failed to stop and give way. She sustained very significant injuries in the collision.
High Court proceedings were issued to ensure our client was able to seek appropriate damages for the extensive injuries caused by the negligent driver.
Our client had sustained a complex ankle fracture and required a skin graft which has unfortunately left her with permanent life-changing disfiguration. She also developed compartment syndrome in her leg as a result of the crush injury.
The accident left our client in significant pain and adversely impacted her mobility. Consequently, she required the use of a rollator at home and a wheelchair for any prolonged period of time. The damages award included compensation for financial loss in relation to the additional support needed to address these injuries. One of the most harrowing aspects of the case was the emotional impact on this elderly victim, which required sensitive handling of her psychological trauma.
Stuart ensured that the injuries were comprehensively assessed by leading medical experts, who concluded that our client would not regain her previous level of mobilisation or amenity. The substantial award for compensation reflected the seriousness of the case. Costs were recovered from the Defendant driver’s insurance company, so that no deductions were made from the client’s settlement.
This case demonstrates O’Reilly Stewart’s commitment to thoroughly investigate all aspects of our clients’ case, in order to achieve the best possible outcome. If you or any member of your family have been involved in an accident, do not hesitate to contact Stuart or any other member of the Litigation team.
