Licensing of the Belfast Barge

14 June 2023

O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors were delighted to act on behalf of Lagan Legacy in the licensing of the Belfast Barge which is permanently moored on Lanyon Quay.
The Belfast Barge is the old Dutch Barge MV Confiance and was built in 1960. The Barge was sailed from the Netherlands to Belfast in 2010 before being transformed into a maritime museum and performance space. The museum tells the history of the Belfast Harbour using authentic artefacts and oral history recordings. This historical centre aims to “present the history and industrial heritage of the River Lagan and the people that used it by way of a permanent exhibition”. In addition to the museum, there is a theatre space where a wide variety of events are held, ranging from comedy clubs to live singers.
Commercial director, Seamus McGranaghan, applied for an Article 5(1)(H) licence which is a licence specifically suited to a place of public entertainment. The licence for the Belfast Barge was granted in May 2023, just in time for locals and tourists to enjoy the amenities in the summer sun.
O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors are proud to be instrumental in the licensing of such an important piece of Belfast history and wish Lagan Legacy the very best of luck in their new venture.
Seamus McGranaghan can offer expert advice to any business wishing to license their premises. Please do not hesitate to contact Seamus on 02890321000 for further information.
