Cawdery Inquest – Killings by Absconded Mental Health Patient

14 June 2023

O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors act on behalf of the next of kin of Marjorie and Michael Cawdery, who were killed in their home by Thomas Scott McEntee in May 2017, at the Inquests into their deaths which opened on Monday 12th June 2023 in Banbridge Courthouse. The story has been widely carried in local media with the BBC, among others,  reporting on the proceedings.

The Inquest is scheduled to hear from witnesses between the 12th and the 23rd June 2023. During the course of the hearing, evidence will be taken from police and health service witnesses who were in contact with the perpetrator of the attack in the days leading up to the incident. Mr McEntee, who is currently serving a sentence for the double killing, was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in the aftermath of the attack and was convicted of two counts of manslaughter on the ground of diminished responsibility.

In his evidence to the inquiry, Mr Charles Little , son in law of the Deceased, expressed a desire to uncover the truth of what happened, in circumstances where Mr McEntee had presented on multiple occasions to healthcare and police services in Belfast, Warrenpoint,  Newry and Craigavon.
