It has today been announced by the Police Service of Northern Ireland that they have commenced what has been described as a major investigation into the clinical practice of Michael Watt, former Consultant Neurologist in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n
Mr Watt\u2019s clinical practices triggered the largest ever recall of patients in 2018, in the region of approximately 5,000 patients.<\/p>\n
The PSNI investigation into Michael Watt\u2019s clinical practice, entitled \u201cOperation Begrain\u201d by the service, is expected to be \u201clong, protracted and complex\u201d.<\/p>\n
The PSNI have appealed to former patients of Mr Watt or alternatively their Next of Kin to report concerns about their medical treatment if they wish. It is understood that a questionnaire has been made available for completion by patients or their Next of Kin to assist with the investigations and a copy of this can also be found online.<\/p>\n
A previous Medical Practitioners\u2019 Tribunal granted Michael Watt voluntary removal from the General Medical Council\u2019s (GMC) medical register in 2021. The net effect of that was that Mr Watt would not face a public hearing in respect of his fitness to practice. This decision was recently quashed by the Northern Ireland High Court.<\/p>\n
