Following further Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) proceedings, Dr Michael Watt, Consultant Neurologist, has been struck off the General Medical Council register. The Tribunal also found that Dr Watt\u2019s fitness to practice was \u201ccurrently impaired\u201d<\/em>, that his professional performance was unacceptable and that the hearing was to proceed in his absence. The Tribunal panel \u201calso imposed an immediate order of suspension on Dr Watt\u2019s registration to cover the 28 day appeal period.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

This latest hearing was on foot of a performance report undertaken in 2018 which had found that Dr Watt repeatedly failed to make correct diagnoses resulting in inappropriate and often invasive treatment being provided to patients including the prescription of medications with serious side-effects which were not clinically indicated<\/p>\n

We very much welcome the above developments as we continue to represent a significant number of the patients and families who have been affected. We are also pleased to report that steady progress has been made towards the effective resolution of many of these cases which it is hoped will in turn assist, to some extent, with such patients\u2019 recovery from these unprecedented events.<\/p>\n
